RESUMO

Laboratory and field evaluations have been used to determine the athletic physical state and to interfere in the training of specific physical capacities to the sport. Our goal was to show the importance of physical evaluation in the training schedule for intermittent modalities during the competition season. A total of 41 subjects with 18 ± 1 year old (under-20 soccer players and juvenile basketball athletes) were submitted to physical evaluations during the preparation period and the championship. We evaluated aerobic resistance capacity through the determination of the anaerobic threshold (AT). To check sprint resistance (SR) we have used maximum sprints 30 meters quantifies this capacity through the number of sprints. This test also gives the 30-m medium velocity (V30), max. velocity (MV) and the time to reach max. velocity (TMV). To check the muscle strength we used the 1 (RM) test and for potency we used horizontal jump for soccer and the deep jump test for basketball. The training schedule proposed for soccer had as bases the concentrated loads model (contemporaneous concept) and the training schedule for basketball players followed the classical concept. The results showed that there were positive adaptations in almost all parameters measured after the fourteen weeks of pre-season in soccer players, which began in March, 2001. Many these capacities were maintained during the ten weeks of the championship and are closer to the values reached in the end of pre-competitive period before the beginning of the main championship for this category. About the basketball, the AT values increased in comparison with the beginning of the season. For TMV and maximum velocity there were developments mainly in the end of the season but for NS it wasn?t possible to find increases in the average values. These results clearly demonstrate the importance of to control and individualize the training
