RESUMO
The diagnosis of the sex for the examination of isolated bones has been studied for medical legal experts, odonto legal experts and anthropologists. It is a difficult task that needs a elabarate comment of the investigator, wants morphologic wants qualitatively. Due to necessity of new methodologies developed in national sample, the Author studied the first cervical vertebra or atlas for the measurement of the following diâmeters: Anteroposterior diameter of atlas - DAP anteroposterior Diameter of the rachidian channel - DAPCR Diameter transverse of the rachidian channel - DTCR maximum Diameter transvrse of atlas - DTM had been studied still the " sexual index of Baudoin " and the form of the surface to articulate of atlas with condule of the occipital. The results had demonstrated that atlas presents sexual dimorfism for the studied diameter and the average of the " sexual índex of Baudoin " presented difference between the sexo It was possible to establish methodologies for diagnose of the sex in future comments for logistic regression, analysis of discriminante function and for the average and reliable interval. The rightness index had been satisfactory and the joined methodologies appear as an important method stand by and of considerable security for the diagnosis of the sex for the study of the human skeleton. The confection of a "software " for a fast application of the found formulas was possible also, that was called of SEX ATLAS
