RESUMO
This research deals with conceptual models developed to support the management by processes to enable generalizations for future applications to Brazilian electric sector companies, in order to obtain competitive differentials. The study establishes general guidelines and proposes the use of four conceptual models to compose the management by processes: mapping, maturity, criticality and process prioritization. Two of these models are detailed in this research (mapping and maturity); and the others are presented in general. It is also emphasized the importance of an integrated vision of these components, that must be seen as a unique management model. The research also explores the importance of a technological support for the management by processes since the information systems offer greater agility in making decisions and allow to manage the processes under an integrated vision of the organization. To validate the proposed model, its application is simulated in a Brazilian company in the Electricity Sector: the Chesf. The main difficulties of implementing this management model for a company in the electricity sector are identified and solution alternatives are proposed, with emphasis on the work with people and particularly to the managers, using a change management plan as the guideline. This aspect is related, mainly, to the functional characteristics and paradigms of the organizational culture in these companies. At the end, based on the results obtained, the main benefits and competitive advantages of the management by processes model are identified, especially those related to the particular application in the sector of electric energy. In this sense, some issues like corporate sustainability, strategic alignment, focus on business, among other differentials obtained with this model are emphasized in order to increase the competitiveness of companies operating in the energy sector in Brazil
