RESUMO

In recent years, we found in literature and perceived in a daily basis that the most problems related to project management in software engineering are not related to technology or technical issues, but the human aspects inherent to the profession. To the point that many professionals admit their flaws in management but rarely change their way to manage projects prioritizing human issues or being capable to improve in this area. Consequently, this may jeopardize the people management and the success of the projects. For this reason, nowadays, mostly of project managers consider the management of people essential to the projects. However, is this speech compatible with the practice when it comes to manage people in software engineering projects? To answer this question, the reality of the people management was investigated in six project teams from different organizations in Recife, and relevant to the qualitative research, seeking to understand the coherence between speech and practice, and the existence of influence of the manager behavioral profile in his praxis. For that were used a research instrument, whose data expressed managers experience; the opinions about people management activities regarding successful and unsuccessful projects, and data regarding the managers behavioral profile. Thus, this research major contribution was generate a series of assumptions and variables to support the creation of models or/and methodology that allows people management improvement in software engineering project teams
