RESUMO

An informal observation of the behavior of certain people, in the environrnent for the practice of sports as leisure, took into consideration the existence of strong educational components brought from previous experiences in their growing process. The average age of these people indicates that the acquisition of such behaviors occurred during the school period, by the end of the fifties and early sixties, and that they alI come iTom the same institution, i.e. Colégio Estadual "Culto à Ciência" in Campinas. During that period the school, more than the family, was responsible for influencingbehaviors. Data raised through the observation, indicate that the Physical Education School Practice, in those days, was developed according to the standards and precepts related to methodology and cultural necessities existing at that time. Everything was new: the school activities always brought new experiences to the students; shaping and recreational physical activities; the students knowledge was given through the contents of the discipline, since it was through this content that new elements were acquired for the physical practice; these sports practices that can be called nowadays leisure practices, since they take place during ftee time, were before recreational body shaping practices very much concerned with the body. Nowadays because of the industrial development, with the work/free-time relations, and considering the cultural contents of leisure and of Physical Education with its recreational practices, there is great amount of meanings in the social-cultural context specifically in the sports as leisure content. The teacher, at that time, would not apply recreational proposals in spite of his consciousness of the meaning of the physical practice as something beyond body physical development. This study means to demonstrate this statement by making the schools, graduating new professionals in this area, aware of the meaning of the work/free-time contextoThe methodology applied was the Study of Case specificallyrelated to the Physical Education discipline in the school mentioned above. A semi-structured interview with a former student of the observed universe, launched a multiple choice questionnaire for the data collecting to corroborate the hypothesis. The conclusion is that the Culture of Sport practice as Leisure, observed in this population, is the result of their previous experience during physical Education classes while in High School at Colégio Estadual "Culto à Ciência" in Campinas. The result of this research is the corroboration of the need of reinforcing, in the physical education practice during primary and high schools in public schools, the objectives that are preparing their students so that they learn how to fill their free time in the future and moreover so that they get better health and quality of life
