RESUMO

This research investigates the live communication of homeless people in São Paulo City in places with are meeting points such as cultural centers, theaters, movie theaters, bookstores and universities. The study is based on the experiences of those who take part in the production and sale of the Ocas Magazine, a brazilian example of a street paper, a worldwide movement of street publications which are commercialized by homeless people. The hypothesis of research are in the recognition of the live communication bond as catalytic of the rescue processes of the homeless autonomy and the use of public spaces, that the environment where the homeless establish their surviving strategies, is the way out to break the non-communication state in which the homeless are left in shelters or other social equipments. The start point of the research is the historical rescue of some aspects which build up the identity of the São Paulo citizen helping to understand the existing relation between the city and the homeless people; and also in which way these roots contribute to a better comprehension of how the live communication bonds are put aside from the rescue processes of the homeless autonomy. This relationship ends up to be expressed by unwanted communications and isolations, denying the differences that make up the contingent of this street population. Those who do not have problems with drugs or mental disturbs and are capable of communication end up to be mixed in the homogeneous treatment given to this matter. To revert this situation, the study ratifies that, by the contact with the processes of production and sale of Ocas Magazine, the exercise of communication is revealing; and also confirms that it is possible to establish new bonds in public spaces. To achieve the research results, it was important, besides the acompaniment of the Ocas Magazine activities, the contact with the Media Theory, by Harry Pross, Communication Ecology, by Vicente Romano, and Image Theory which have given important tools of analyses. Other vital concepts for the research were the ones by Dietmar Kamper, Boris Cyrulnik, Konrad Lorenz, Edgar Morin, Luiz Carlos Restrepo, James Hillman, Henry-Pierre Jeudy, Norval Baitello Jr., Paulo Freire and Roberto DaMatta
