2. Molecular identification of Rickettsia parkeri infecting Amblyomma triste ticks in an area of Argentina where cases of rickettsiosis were diagnosed
Specimens of the hard tick Amblyomma triste were found infected with Rickettsia parkeri in an area of Argentina (General Lavalle, Buenos Aires Province) where cases of human illness attributed to this microorganism have been reported. Molecular detection of R. parkeri was based on polymerase chain reactions that amplify a ca. 400-bp fragment of the 23S-5S in

3. Rickettsia parkeri: a Rickettsial pathogen transmitted by ticks in endemic areas for spotted fever rickettsiosis in southern Uruguay
At first Rickettsia conorii was implicated as the causative agent of spotted fever in Uruguay diagnosed by serological assays. Later Rickettsia parkeri was detected in human-biting Amblyomma triste ticks using molecular tests. The natural vector of R. conorii, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, has not been studied for the presence of rickettsial organisms in Uruguay

4. Descrição e redescrição morfológica do estágio ninfal e chave taxonômica para ninfas de carrapatos do gênero Amblyomma (Acari:Ixodidae) que ocorrem no Brasil / Morphological description and redescription of nymphal stages and taxonomic key to nymphs of the Amblyomma species (Acari: Ixodidae) that occur in Brazil
Together with the larval stage, the nymphal stage of ticks of the genus Amblyomma are the most aggressive ticks for humans entering in areas inhabited by wild life and some domestic animals. However, due to the inexistence of morphological description of the nymphal stage of many Amblyomma species that occur in Brazil, together with the lack of a taxonomic k

5. Perfil sanitário de onças-pintadas (Panthera onca) de vida livre no Pantanal Sul do Mato Grosso do Sul - Brasil / Health profile of free-ranging jaguars (Panthera onca) in Pantanal, Mato Grosso do Sul State - Brazil
Few studies have been conducted to investigate the health of free-ranging jaguars. In order to obtain better parameters for clinical evaluation of this endangered species, clinical exams, hemogram, biochemical tests and ecological monitoring were done for 10 jaguars in the Pantanal region - Corumbá City, Mato Grosso do Sul State. This project also evaluated

6. Survey of Rickettsia spp. in Amblyomma dubitatum Neumann 1899 and Amblyomma triste Koch 1844 ticks from Brazil and Uruguay, respectivily / Pesquisa de Rickettsia spp. em carrapatos Amblyomma dubitatum Neumann 1899 e Amblyomma triste Koch 1844, provenientes do Brasil e Uruguai, respectivamente
Owing to the potential role of the tick Amblyomma dubitatum and Amblyomma triste in the transmission of the Spotted Fever Group (SFG) Rickettsia, this study evaluated infection by Rickettsia in ticks collected in Brazil and Uruguay, where rickettsial infection is endemic. A total of 841 (367 males e 474 females) A. dubitatum adult ticks were collected in Ped

Investigation on the Rickettsia parkeri infection in ticks Amblyomma triste in the state of São Paulo: isolation and molecular characterization of the bacterium / Investigação da infecção pela bactéria Rickettsia parkeri em carrapatos Amblyomma triste no Estado de São Paulo: isolamento e caracterização molecular da bactéria
