1. Acute exercise inhibits gastric emptying of liquids in rats: influence of the NO-cGMP pathway
We previously found that acute exercise inhibited the gastric emptying of liquid in awake rats by causing an acid-base imbalance. In the present study, we investigated the involvement of the nitric oxide-cyclic guanosine monophosphate (NO-cGMP) pathway, vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), and corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) peptide in this phenomenon.

2. Análise hemogasométrica arterial e venosa de ovinos submetidos à transposição carotídea e indução de desequilíbrios ácido-básicos
With the purpose of comparing the parameters of arterial and venous blood gases during inhalational anesthesia with isoflurane in acid-base induced imbalances, 6 sheep Santa Inês were used. To facilitate the serial collection of blood they were prior submitted to carotid transposition technique used by Sweeney and Constantinescu (1992) in horses. We evaluat

3. Effects of acid-base imbalance on vascular reactivity
Acid-base homeostasis maintains systemic arterial pH within a narrow range. Whereas the normal range of pH for clinical laboratories is 7.35-7.45, in vivo pH is maintained within a much narrower range. In clinical and experimental settings, blood pH can vary in response to respiratory or renal impairment. This altered pH promotes changes in vascular smooth m

4. Evaluation of acid-base and electrolyte disturbances in dogs with diabetic ketosis and ketoacidosis / Avaliação dos distúrbios ácido-base e eletrolíticos de cães com cetose e cetoacidose diabética

6. Pathophysiology of infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus disease in rainbow trout: hematological and blood chemical changes in moribund fish.
Infectious hematopoietic necrosis (IHN) is a rhabdoviral disease of rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri). Trout were injected with IHNV, and various hematological and biochemical measurements of clinically ill fish were compared to uninfected controls. Infected fish had reduced corpuscular counts, hemoglobin, and packed cell volume, but normal mean corpuscular vo
